Janet Walke comes from a family of musicians, having started her musical career at the age of seven in Holy Trinity Choir and playing cello until leaving school. Singing became her passion and in 2000 she began focusing on opera.
As a principal mezzo-contralto with Opera Nova; roles include in the Third Lady in the Magic Flute and the Voice in Tales of Hoffmann; semi-staged roles have included excerpts from Carmen (Mercedes) and Der Rosenkavalier (Octavian). The 2014 Season will see her play the fortune telling gypsy Preziosilla in extracts from Verdi's La Forza del destina [The force of destiny].
A highlight was playing La Principessa in Suor Angelica [Puccini] at Oxenfoord with Malcolm Martineau.
Janet’s passion for recital and oratorio singing has taken her to venues across the UK.
